Love as a Means of Attaining Truth in Romantic Art

Abstract

This study examines love within the framework of Romantic thought and art, not merely as an individual emotion or aesthetic theme, but as a fundamental means of attaining truth. Emerging as a reaction against the rationalist and objectivist epistemology of the Enlightenment, Romanticism rejected the limitation of truth to reason alone and recognized emotion, intuition, and aesthetic experience as legitimate paths to knowledge and being.

In this context, love is interpreted as an existential experience through which the subject transcends finite existence and establishes a deeper relation with nature, art, and the Absolute. In Romantic art, love expresses the human search for wholeness, the longing for infinity, and the effort to grasp truth through inner experience. The study argues that love functions as an ontological and epistemological mediator in the Romantic conception of truth.
